Héctor Urzúa is an Agronomist and Enologist from the University of Chile. His international experience includes vintages in Australia and France.
Although he loves to make white and rosé wines, his career has led him to specialize in reds. He has worked for over ten years at the Lourdes cellar in the heart of the Maule region, and was the first winemaker to take advantage of the richness and diversity of this valley’s soils. Today, Maule is beginning to attract the attention of the wine world and this is in part due to Urzúa’s tenacity and his complete dedication to discovering and researching new terroirs and planting new varieties.
In 2006 he was asked to create a Maule Cabernet Sauvignon. Urzúa decided to create a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Carmenere. Palo Alto was born; an innovative new wine range which has surprised specialized critics and received numerous distinctions. Recently, Palo Alto Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2007 was rated a Best Value Red with 91 points and a Gold Medal in the 6th Wines of Chile Awards and in addition, it scored 89 points and Best Value wine in prestigious Wine Spectator Magazine.
