All vintages are different

Since early and in the way to a new vintage, I unconsciously begin to look for similarities with other years. That is cold as the year 2007, that is warmer than 2009, the spring is like…etc.

In February, when we were approaching the vintage 2010, we thought that fresh spring and a climate with minimum and maximum temperatures lower than other years can affect the maturation of the grapes. It was “logical to think that some varieties would benefit and others suffer. Obviously, we expected that Merlot and Cabernet were going to give us a good vintage. Perhaps the Carmenere strict in maturity were the most uncertain.

Before the harvest I taste the grape and I discovered that we are in a very good year. The Merlot is excellent; fresh fruit, soft and concentrated. The Syrah can adapted to different have enhanced its notes of red fruits and the acidity gives a lot of freshness and vitality. The Cabernet has deep colors and is distinguished for their softness and elegance. What about Carmenere?…big surprise, intense in color, fruity, less spicy than other years, structured, soft and with a perfect maturity between acidity and alcohol.

In each vineyard and in each wine from Maule Valley, there are many things to discover and many to learn, because it is clear … all vintages are different.

Palo Alto Reserva 2009 Wins Gold Medal

PALO ALTO RESERVA 2009 has been awarded an important distinction in the “Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2010”. This contest, created 16 years ago, quickly gained prestige as the competition’s jury is composed exclusively of wine industry professionals. This year the panel was made by the biggest number of experts of 40 different nationalities, which contributes to the uniqueness of the event.
At the contest 6.964 wines were tasted and awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. Palo Alto Reserva Tinto 2009 won a medal gold, which confirms the consistency achieved by this wine and promises us a great year with this new vintage.
This is undoubtedly a very special distinction which will help us to continue expanding and strengthening Palo Alto´s brand image globally.

Palo Alto knows the importance of the environmental issues that are affecting the planet; our mission is to improve quality of life and help to develop more green areas. This is why we support Trees for Cities charity in the UK because they share our belief that trees are vital for the environment, especially polluted cities.
Palo Alto is supporting an exclusive VIP screening of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ in Warner Bross. luxury preview cinema, in aid of Trees for Cities. Be one of the first to see this new iconic film in style on Friday 7th May: www.treesforcities.org
The screening will be held in a private cinema with an intimate drinks reception prior to the movie. Palo Alto’s mission is to help reforest the planet, so we will be supporting the event by providing the full range of wines.
